The 411

Justin Castaneda is a writer and illustrator from the south side of Chicago. He studied animation at the Illinois Institute of Art in Schaumburg where he earned his degree in Media Art.

Since then, he has sparked an interest in children's books. In 2007 he published his first in a series entitled, When I Was Little..., a picture book of his fondest childhood memories. The following year he published the cleverly titled sequel, When I Was Little Too, which carried on the tradition of re-living one's youth.

During 2009, he held a submission contest asking people to share their favorite childhood memories. The selected entries would become the focus for his third book, When You Were Little.
