Doomsday is coming....

So I stumbled upon this link today. And it was this 5 minute behind the scenes video of the new direct to video dvd, Superman/Doomsday. It's coming out on Sept. 18 2007. It's a movie that chronicles the death and return of Superman. It looks so amazing and I'm so happy that Bruce Timm decided to make the deaht of Superman graphic novels into an animated movie. I also snagged the trailer for the film off of you tube.

Here's a Doomsday sketched I did after viewing all this cool video stuff.

Will you teach me to football?

Quick football sketches I did the other night. No real inspiration except for the fact that I wanted to draw this really hot girl bent over in a football uniform and label her as the tight end. hee hee. I like the pig mascot too.

PS - The subject line is from The Longest Yard, the Adam Sandler remake.

Pool Party

Haven't blogged in a long while and it's because my weekend as been filled up with playing pool and going out. It's the weekend whatdya want from me?!! Anyways, my weekend actually started on like a Thursday because thats when the pool table came in. So we pretty much barbequed and played pool like all weekend, except for Saturday. Emil, Kj, and myself went to Lanie's birthday beach thing which was @ The North Ave. beach downtown. Afterwords, Kj Em, and I went to Joy Yee's by UIC. That was some good eats, first time I ever ate there. We ordered safe and didn't try anything to exotic: shrimp fried rice, sesame chicken, and korean spicy dumplings. When I got back around 10ish there was more people at the house testing out the new pool. Talk about "party all the time"!! By the time Sunday hit I was tired as heck. So I chilled and played some Bigs with Frank.

So here's some pictures of the pool table getting much use this weekend...seriously it was like Thursday - Saturday non stop pool!

PS - I want to post up the entire garage makeover series on my picasa...in due time because it's ilke 5 folders of pictures!! But here's some choice pictures of the brand new table. More to post soon!

You are a delight....

So here's a quick sketch of James Lipton, host of the show, "Inside the Actor's Studio."
I used to think this guy was a tool but then he was on Arrested Development playing the warden and he ended up being HILARIOUS on it. Oh and don't forget about the endless Will Ferrell Spoofs on SNL.

But I actually like this show and I've been finding episodes on youtube. Some of the better interviews on there are ones with Johnny Depp and Dave Chapelle. If you're bored or don't have Bravo, I suggest you hit up the youtube and check'em out.

So the other night, I caught a really late night episode of Conan O'Brien where his guest was Chris Walken. It was a really funny interview. I opened up the ole' sketchbook and sketched myself some Conan and Walken headshots in between commercials. I think they turned out pretty nice.

Sketch Men

Pretty boring day. Sleep, wake up, work, eat, draw, rinse, and repeat. John and Jax came by in the evening. I helped my dad in the garage somewhat and we added some glow in the dark stars to the ceiling. You'll see what I mean when I post the progression stages of the garage makeover. The good word is that the pool table he ordered is coming in on Thursday. So that's exciting and I know he can't wait to get it.

I finished watching The Ninth Gate and did these X-men sketches while it was playing. I like Gambit and the rest are ok haha. Well back to work...not about to turn it in yet. I get more productive during the late hours anyway. Peace.

Do you take credit?

Man I bought this left handed driver yesterday at "Play It Again Sports" for like 10 bucks and I so badly wanted to go hit some golf balls at the driving range by the house. So, I get there and I was all "geared" up and "pumped" to attempt and pull a Tiger Woods or a Happy Gilmore and it turns out that the Double Eagle Golf Practice Center doesn't take credit any more. Cash Only. LAAAAAAAAMEEE!!!!

I drove home like a chump because I was too lazy to drive to PGN. I ended up shooting hoops for a good hour or two...I guess I'll break in the driver another day. (Even though it's been broken in 'cause its a used club heh)

~ j.ay

I woke up early one...afternoon (heh) and noticed that there were all kinds of vampire shows and movies on different channels throughout the day. Stuff like Angel, Vampires and Dracula 2000. So I took a stab (heh 2 for 2) and drew some vampire shit. Drink up!

Happy Belated Birthday!

long day, longer night

WOW almost 5am and I'm still up and aboot. That's insane. I thought I'd give you guys a little update as to why I'm up so late. DRAWING! That's pretty much all I did today. I worked on some projects then took a break here and there to do laundry (CRAP! I REALIZED I LEFT A LOAD IN THE DRYER) and eat. Woke up to my parents blasting their filipino folk music which was...interesting. Usually the loud music playing is like hard rock or rap, haha not in this house.

So throughout the day, I was basically on the computer non-stop. I had the TV on in the background for ambiance. I ended up watching like 4 episodes of Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends and Spongebob Squarepants in the afternoon. Wow, those shows are really creative and funny in that WEIRD way. It's a good thing because I like that kind of humor alot and sometimes find myself being WEIRD funny around my group of friends. Foster's has some really great character designs too and I wish I was working on a show like that. Also I looked up to see if Amazon had Season 1. Which around that same time Jason sent me a link he found.

It was to an Amazon page that was pre-selling for the ENTIRE SERIES of John Favreau's Dinner for Five. Anyone who knows me knows how much I dig this show and was bummed to find that they only had 1 season out and as of right now, they are selling the whole series! So yeah my copy is on it's way to my house and will be arriving in the next week. I'm so stoked. (Do people even say that nowadays?)

The rest of my night wasn't too bad. Got a phone call from an old friend who I haven't spoken to in what seems like years. Finished up some fun art stuff and watched this Scott Baio show on vh1. Anyways to top off the night, I stayed up later (than usual) to pencil in these Foster's sketches I did earlier in the afternoon. So yet another day of putting pencil to paper.

On a side note: I'm not sure if anyone reads what I write on this stupid thing or just comes back to look at the pretty pictures. But either way, I'm glad people stop by. Honestly I wouldn't read the crap I write on here either just give us more PICTURES DAMNIT! At least it's not a torture type of blog where you have to read it first THEN I show you the picture haha. See the picture's right over there on the upper right side, next to the jibberish.

ALSO, I plan on coloring some of these Foster's sketches. Eduardo for sure.

On The Island, invaded by Zim.

Before I went to Ihop, I went to Target to get some clothes. Mostly socks because I keep losing them in the dryer, damn Sokmunsters!

After that, I went to Circuit City because I've been wanting to see the ridiculous action movie Bad Boys II for like a week now. I don't really know why but I think it might be because of this.
I also think I had this weird dream that I was watching it because that scene where the cars were being thrown at them was like in my dream or something. Anyways I went to Circuit City and saw that they had it. Then I put it back because I thought of a Michael Bay film that I actually liked which was "The Island". I think I have mentioned it once or twice on this blog before. ANYWAYS probably like everyone in the world right now you're asking, "Why do you like that movie?".

I don't know, it's got a great cast and the action is really fast paced. Scarlett Johansson & Ewan McGregor are both great in it and the story I like more then giant f*ckin' robots. Anyways it was a well blend of sci-fi and action and I wanted to see it again. But not for 14 dollars haha.

So I went to Best Buy instead and they were selling it for 9. Which brings us to the whole reason for this posting. I was browsing around and found the Invader Zim boxset for under 20 dollars brand new. It's the entire series that they released before but not in a toy replica of his house hence the really cheap price. So yeah, I bought that too haha. I've watched the first disc so far and I always laugh at how the characters were designed and they're facial expressions and emotions are great. So I thought it would be cool to draw The Jsquad in the style of Invader Zim. So I definitely plan on coloring these fancy like!

Starting at the top left and going clockwise: Jacy, Me, Willis, Eric, and Jeff (with his fancy remote gadget.)

Would you like some sketches with that omlette?

So I went to iHop today with my sketchbook. I thought I could use a change of scenery instead of sketching in my room. Sometimes if you're lucky you get some weird people eating around you and that gives you more material to sketch like say um, "crazy hat lady" or "pregnant teenager girl with kfed boyfriend look-a-like", but it was kinda empty.

Anyways, I got a spinach omelette and a side salad. While waiting, I was staring at a new hat I got which has a Goomba on it that says "Game over" on it. It's really pimp and so I began sketching some Super Mario related stuff. After that, I worked on some project stuff and left the pancakes with the tip.

So enjoy!

....a princess, and a criminal.

Here are the remaining two sketches for my Breakfast Club series. I had a fun time working on these and I think they turned out really sweet. I'm working on kind of a character wallpaper of them that I'm gonna post on my deviant site as soon as I get it done. So be sure to check that out.

A brain, an athlete, and a basketcase....

So, just a normal day really. I'm kinda recovering from a BBQ at my cousin Jason's house. I was so stuffed and tired from the weekend that I needed an extra day to recover so my Monday was a snooze fest.

I didn't do all that much today, worked for a bit and stayed in my room. Man I need to get out more! I don't have any random sketches for you today but I'm hoping to do some more sketch work before I start any actual work work. You know, to get the creative juices flowing and all that.

So anyway, this is one of those movies that you don't really need to own unless you're a super uber fan. It's always on T.V. anyway and whenever it's on, you find yourself sitting there watching it. I'm the same way with the movie "Field of Dreams", if it's on I'll watch it even with the commercials.

So if you didn't already know, I'm talking about the Breakfast Club and it was on the other night like @ 3am and I had my sketchbook and did a late night art jam while watching it. So hear the pencils for the first three characters in the series of five: Brian, Andy, and Allison.

I need to scan in Claire and tighten up the pencils on rebel and detention regular, John Bender.

30 Minute Sketches

So Food Network is like my favorite channel and sometimes I have it on like 24/7. WHAT?! I like food...I'm filipino haha I know that's not an excuse I'm just a fatty hahaha.

Anyways in my previous post, I pointed out that I wanted to do some sketches of some of the Food Network's shining stars. And right after I posted that I was debating to start it or go to sleep. (eek it's 2:07am!)

I busted out the sketchbook and started doing some really loose and quick sketches. I think as I got further down the list I started to get the style I was going for, that being very cartoony and animated expressions.

I think I might take another stab at this but not bad for a warm up. Good Eats!

(From top right going counter clockwise: Paula Dean, Giada DeLaurentiis, Emeril Lagasse, Rachel Ray, and Alton Brown. )

I like how they turned out and I hope you do too. I think my Giada (so hot btw) is a lil jank though haha.

Full Metal Fan ART!

Alphonse Elric by ~happyfestivus on deviantART

Caught a late episode of Full Metal Alchemist last night. Man that is a really cool show and I was talking with my cousin not to long ago about anime and this one came up on the "not scene but want to" list. Anyways I was watching the episode and had this drawing in mind when it finished. Of course it was like 4am when I conked out so I spent time on it today and ended up finishing it earlier this evening. Thought I'd post the basic stages from lines, inks, and the final color BG piece. - ENJOY!

Not much happened today. Woke up like @ 8:00am and thought about grabbing my sketchbook and hitting up an IHOP and doing a breakfast art jam but I hit he snooze like a gazillion times and finally woke up at 1 in the afternoon (CRAPOLA....not to be confused with CRAYOLA).

So I tried to do some work work and balanced that with some phone calls, voicemailin, textin, Tim'ing (thats trillian insant messaging haha take that AIM), and finishing up the 4th disc of Friends Season 8. I stepped outside to help my dad with some garage work for a good 2 hours or so. *professional 2X4 holder right here ladies and gentlemen! haha.

Anyways didn't really sketch anything else but had this great idea to do a Food Network cast of characters. So look out for that. I had this funny image of Paula Dean (the big southern lady who puts butter on everything) and I just cracked myself up and I haven't even drawn it yet! HA Ok enough rambling. Time to get back to work...er sleep...er eat. Enjoy your weekend everyone!

8:17pm update

So its around the time above but I'm sure once I post this, it'll be a couple minutes past. I'm kinda bored today. It was really nice out and I was cooped up inside so I took about 10 or 15 minutes to drive to the post office and drop off mail. The windows were down of course and I enjoyed some nice air. I wish I was not so lame and had something nice to do outside.

So after I dropped off the mail, I went back to my nest and internetted for awhile. I played some piano for a bit and played some Call of Duty 3 and this pretty much brings us up to date. I'm not really doing anything now, I have a t.v. dinner in the microwave and I'm watching some Friends Season 8. So it's keeping me occupied. I guess its nice that its almost the witching hour (thats usually when I am more productive) But I guess I should take some time to be outside for lil bit everyday so I won't be so bored and lost around this hour. haha

ANYWAYS here's some random sketches of monsters and lil creatures.

Faces, frogs, and some crap...(running away from toliet paper)

Today was nothing special, put in 5 hours of work and tried to wrap up some personal project stuff. Sorry guys, it's still kind of hush, hush but I'm getting there I promise. Anyways, I thought I'd post up some sketches I did today and weeks previous. I've been feeling pretty good lately and I think it's because of this sketch blog I've been doing. It's keeping me sane! Now if only I had a powerbook and iMovie...I'd take over your web space ((*cue evil laugh. (MUHAHAHAHA))

I found a bunch of really great artists' personal sites and blogs today and man these guys inspire for sure!

Joe Pekar
Robin Mitchell
Tracy Lee

These artists are really awesome and I hope to meet them or at least be at a convention by them...maybe a couple of tables away... heh (in due time!!)

Well, have at it!

Demetri Martin

Hey guys! I think it would really awesome if the comedian Demetri Martin had his own animated series. The inspiration for this piece was that I was bumbling around on youtube again. And I came across this site: http://clearification.com/

It's a site where he has made webisodes about this condition he has called Hyper Achiever with No Direction and Tendency to Overcomplicate Situations Syndrome or H.A.N.D. T.O.S.S. for short.

I've only watched the first two because I stopped to do this lil fan piece. Plus if you get bored of the episodes (which you probably won't) there's a lot more content on there. My favorite is the "Thoughts" section. Where this animated version of Demetri sits on a log and just talks about random stuff. It's really funny.

Well enjoy!!

Well you know how I was obsessively watching youtube a couple days ago. I stumbled upon this gem. Then I found out they had their own website. (even better!)

It's a web show produced by CBS about Michael Cera (from Arrested Development) and Clark Duke (from the new show, Greek) playing themselves as young hollywood writers trying to pitch a new tv show.

If you haven't heard or seen it yet peep it out. It's really really funny. I'm sure of the 5 people who read my blog there's at least one who's heard about it. So sorry for the late reaction to the show and SHAME on you for not telling me about it.

Super Chick

Right after I ranted about not sketching enough I stayed up (almost 3am mind you) and sketched this girl. It didn't take me long but I'm only posting now because I got distracted with the internets and talked to my cousin Jason about anime for a bit. Then I was like watching some youtube videos or something. Anyhoo...

Don't you want to hang out with her and talk comics and movies all day?
I've never come across a cool comic book chick that I really dug. I've met some before but they didn't share the same interests (comic and movie wise) as me so they were into some shit that I wasn't diggin'. So anyways I had fun posing this character and the countless hours staring at victoria secret catalogs paid off.

Seriously though, I felt that it was a great way to study shape, proportions, and poses. I found it a great help. So for all you artists out there who want to learn how to draw women better, get a victoria catalog flip through the pages and find a pose you like and try to capture it on paper. Eventually when you get the form down you can begin to give it a sense of your own style. Then play with the proportions a bit and make them rounder or make them lengthier, whatever you like!

Thats it for now, have at it!

Girls, Girls, Girls

Just some sketches of random girls. The first one (from right to left) is "13" girl, followed by "Thundercats" girl and "Librarian" girl. HAHA. I need to get back to sketching like when I was in college.
I used to do it non-stop and I'd be able to fill up a sketchbook by the end of a good 3 weeks or even less. Now it kinda takes me a lot longer to do that because I've been working on some just specific personal project art or the comic book.

I'm hoping to get back into the swing of it with this sketch blog and getting me to put pen or penicil to paper more.

I reorganized my closet Sunday and I noticed that from the time I started college all the way up to now I've gone through about 10 sketchbooks....Not all of them are filled and I was pretty bad at ripping pages out if I thought that some or all of the sketches on that page were crap on crap. I'm trying to stay away from that but I guess that's the OCD in me. GEEZ, even my sketches have to have some sense of order...even if they are sketches. Well thanks for listening to this rant about how I think I should sketch more like I did back in college. Hopefully now that I cleared the air with that, I can get to it. *crack the whip!

Mhhhhmmmmm Tempura....

Ok. This post is about a dream I had a couple of weeks ago. So I don't totally remember all of it BUT I do have details that I remember vividly so here we go...'member this is JUST A DREAM.

Well, before I get into all of this, I have to mention Special Dark from AllThingsChill . He is a friend of my cousin, Jason whom I've met a couple of times when I used to live up in Schaumburg while I was in school. He's a Culinary Specialist, Online Journalist, and Mobile/Club DJ out in Cali. So, with that being said, Special Dark was in my dream a couple of weeks ago. WEIRD I KNOW. I think it's because he is a chef and well this dream is about making food.

So in my dream, I'm sitting at the kitchen table in my aunt's house and my parents are there and so is my aunt and uncle. And it's really late at night and they asked me if I had eaten already. I say I haven't and they offer me some chow mein that they pulled out of a microwave or something. But, my dad takes a look at the clock and realizes it's midnight and he immediately takes back the plate I'm about to dig into and says, "It's 12am no eating after 10...it's late."

So I was all like wtf man. And I head into my grandmother's room but it's not my grandmother's room in my dream. It's a stairway and I go up the stairs and who do I see hanging out up there. It's Special Dark. Now at this point in my dream it gets a little more bizarre because I'm all mad about not eating the chow mein and he's dressed up in full on chef gear and asks me whats up. I say that I'm hungry and he says that we'll make some tempura. So it's kind of like a cooking segment that they would show on The Tonight Show because I magically get into like an "assistant to the chef" (hah I love The Office) type of outfit.

Now, we proceed to make tempura and basically the end product is (ok this is where it's REALLY WEIRD) a giant bowl of the Velveeta Shells and it's like smothered in adobo sauce. You don't know what Adobo is, it's bascially a dish made with pork or chicken with soy sauce, crushed garlic, vinegar, bay leaf, and black peppercorns.

Now this is a dream and this is NOT what Tempura is. It's a Japanese deep fried batter dipped seafood with veggies. AND I'm not saying that Special Dark doesn't know how to make Tempura because this is all a dream and I've seen some of his cooking videos on his site and he's really good. So if Special Dark is reading this I have no idea why you made this dish in my dream. HAHA

So now, I'm eating this giant bowl of shells and adobo sauce and ENJOYING it when in reality that sounds kind of gross and I would probably vomit.

Then like right after as I'm shoving this dish into my mouth, he says to me that he has to check to see if these Snes games he bought at a videogame store works on my super nintendo. So the final image in my dream was like me eating nasty shells in adobo sauce and he's playing like Battle Toads and Double Dragon.

So I told some of my family members this and they pretty much laughed their heads off and it's been kind of a running joke for the past couple weeks.

Stuff like "jay you want some tempura?" or "mhhhhhmmmmm tempura". So at the end of every sketchbook I go through, I like to post the last page on my deviant but I decided to make the last page dedicated to this funny and bizarre dream I had. I also put up some pictures courtesy of wikipedia.com. The first one after my drawing is chicken adobo and the second is tempura. As you can see..NO VELVEETA SHELLS WHATSOEVER.

I also posted a phone pic Lanie sent me after I told her about my dream with a text that said "hmmmm tempura".

So yeah....I don't know it was weird and funny. BLAH enough talky talky more picture showy showy.

I KNOW it's like almost 2am and I said I wanted to post more art so I thought I would do that now 'cause that's what I said I was gonna do so ughhhh back off yeah! HAH Just kiddin'!

So yeah, have you heard of D.J. SHY? Well, he's been featured as the Creator of S.A.S. Recordings, 103.5 Kiss FM Chicago DJ., Mixed overseas in the Philippines, and was seen on Hataw Pinoy Chicago CH. 41 KBC-TV. He's also my cousin.

He commissioned me to create his logo which if you visit any of the sites linked above, you'll pretty much see it as his identity everywhere. Here, you can see some of the ideas I came up with and the end product in B&W and Color. So check it out!! He's also got a space so ADD HIM he's awesome!

After the holiday...

So, I had a pretty good week. Um, this past Saturday we had a party to celebrate my cousin Jona's new job and that he's moving to Maryland. Before the bbq, a bunch of us went to see Transformers (for the 2nd time) which I had reviewed previously. (both times I saw it)

AYYYNNYWAYS, we played UNO and ate stuff, played some 360, bags, and hung out. All in all it was really fun. And I posted pics on my picasa as per usual. I'll put some up here to go along with the post so that it's not as boring and all wordy.

So, what did I do today. WELL after the long 2 weeks of movies, bbqs, hanging, burning, and fatty-ing I slept. And I'm not talking like sleep till noon. I'm talking about sleeping til it was dark so I woke up thinking it was the previous night. I woke up at like 5 in the afternoon. "So, I took a coma...'bout a hundred hours." I hibernated. And when I woke up, I wanted to clean my room. So, I reorganized my closet and went threw some junk. Changed my bed sheets and swiffered the floor. FUN TIMES INDEED. I took a break about 2 hours in and ended up watching a bunch of you tube videos. Mostly from, HappySlip, KevJumba, and MelissaJenna. After a good 2 or 3 hours of sitting here watching these videos, I thought it would be fun if I got a youtube account and made some videos as well. It looks like fun and I wouldn't be so bored in my room sometimes. BUT I'm not gonna do it for two reasons:

A. I want to get a powerbook first before I sign up and get an account.
2. I have some personal projects that I should finish up before I get addicted and use all my time sitting here making videos. Seeing how I sit here AYYYNYWAYS and do nothing or work on these projects it would further make me never leave my room and not enjoy the remainder of my summer outside.

But it would be sweet to video blog then to type all this stuff out because well, it takes forever and I'm not the best writer in the whole world and sometimes, I'm sure you've thought it too, I sound like an idiot. So I think I'm better off being an idiot on camera because that way I'd be more animated and alive.

All in due time I guess. Well it's about 1:28am and I just uploaded those pictures of Jona's party and I'm drinking my Arizona Green Tea....which is in a cup that kinda smells like onions...*GROSS I need to dump this and wash this cup. So I think I'm gonna watch some more videos and hit the bed.

P.S.- I should be drawing more on here since I've said this is an ONLINE SKETCHBOOK and I've posted SOME but not alot of sketches on here. I've been doing photos lately. But that just goes to show how busy I get in the summer when I want to hang out with my family and be outside. I promise I'll put more work up.

Transforming a second time....

Yeah didn't really like it any better seeing it again my feelings were kinda the same after a 2nd viewing...I actually felt it TOOK longer to get to the parts I thought were cool. HAHA "ZOMG" this movie ain't all that. HAHA But whatever I liked Superman Returns so you can chew my head off for that.

More then meets the egh...

So, On word of mouth about how good Transformers really is, I saw it with my friend Janeen last night. It was ok. NOT GREAT. OK. The special FX were amazing and insanely well done. HOWEVER the story was kinda cheesy and some of the action was TOO in your face. I know everyone's been praising Michael Bay because he was "the guy" for the job. But he could've backed the shit up so we can actually see whats going on. Am I the only one who thought The Island was a good movie? I think it's one of his better and more overlooked movies. The action and pacing in that are just as good and there aren't giant robots and stuff to mess things up. AND the robots don't fuck up your garden and say "my bad". What kind of super intelligent robot tech species goes around and says "my bad"? ANYYYYWAYYYYYYYYYYYS I wasn't a big fan of Transformers growing up and I'm not that into to cars so probably thats why it didn't appeal to me. Except for the whole Megan Fox showing up and showing off her....let's just say I got a transforming action in my pants. hahaha.

KUDOs to Shia LeBouf for his portrayal as Sam, the spunky, hormone driven, witty hero. And Megan Fox....I LOVE YOU hahahaha. I think those two were the most entertaining in the whole movie.

So all in all it was ok...didn't really make me "ZOMG" or whatever the fuck people say now a days. Definitely worth seeing....I think the one time might be enough for me. But I'm going to go see it today with some more family. Soooooo maybe just the two times. WHO'S UP FOR MORE JOHN MCCLANE?! And when is the new TMNT movie coming out on DVD?

A important message from Ryan Howard and Dwight Schrute...

.....And now you know.

Just finished rewatching The Office Season 2 on dvd because there's nothing funny on tv anymore except Rescue Me but thats more of a drama. On the bonus disc they have some really funny Fake PSAs but I can only find a couple on you tube. I wish someone would post Jim's PSA about The Fugitive on there. OR you guys should just go out and buy the 2nd season 'cause it's hilarious. Also I did some sweet headshots of some of my fav characters from the show. Enjoy!

BTW Out of the mouth of Pam Beesley herself, the Office Season 3 dvd drops in Sept!! AWESOME! Thanx Spamster and hope your back gets better.
